 8) 8) 8)  Part of the reason we should not carry around our old secrets , is because we may be acting out like we did while using. We have to learn to let go of all secrets , they will keep us sick, getting them out we can be on our way to recovery and a new way of life.    8) 8) 8)

We're As Sick As Our Secrets
by steppe u

WE’RE AS SICK AS OUR SECRETS
The newcomer headed back from a long ways out,
He could barely hear the voices call.
The ones that said, “Keep coming back”,
Whenever he’d stumble and fall.
The road underfoot had jagged rocks,
That bruised his injured feet.
And slippery places where he’d slide on back,
When he struggled not to retreat.
But those voices kept calling to him,
When his resolve would ebb and wane.
They asked him to shed his burden,
And offered to share his pain.
At times he was right among them,
At times he was so far away.
When he resolved to use no more,
They told him, “Just For Today”.
“Don’t try to carry the weeks and the months,
Or to grasp the oncoming years.
For you’ll only add to your burden and pain,
Shed the sorrow and find joy in your tears.”
So he stumbled along and gritted his teeth,
And he let God help him find the light.
When he admitted he was beaten and truly surrendered,
Then serenity came when he gave up the fight.
And suddenly ‘far away’ existed no more,
They were walking along by his side.
As they asked him to remind them how bad it had been,
And he knew he need no longer hide.
The secrets that lurked like a vampire dark,
In the shadows of his mind.
So he let in the light that burned them away,
And left their ashes behind.
